May All Beings Be Well and Happy!
The North Dakota Buddhist Vihara is a Buddhist temple that serves all those interested in learning about the Teachings of the Buddha. We offer teachings for both children and adults. We welcome people from all traditions and cultures to ‘come and see’ and to share in practices such as meditation, discussion on the teachings of the Buddha and ritual and cultural events of the Buddhist community of North Dakota.
Weekly advice from the Buddha
"No brahmana should be attacked; nor should a brahmana get offended when attacked. Shame on him who attacks a brahmana! More shame on the brahmana who becomes wrathful when attacked. " ---Dhp.389
"He who has discarded evil is called a brahmana; he who leads a quiet spiritual life is called a samana; he who has eliminated defilements is called a pabbajita, a recluse. " ---Dhp.388
"The sun shines by day, and the moon by night; the warrior shines in armour, and the brahmana (a noble one) in meditation. But the Buddha shines in splendor, both day and night." ---Dhp.387
"Him I call a brahmana (noble one), who is meditative, is devoid of stain, lives a solitary life, has done his duty and is free from inflows. Such a person has attained the Highest goal." ---Dhp.386
"For whom there is neither this nor the farther shore, nor both, he who is neither perturbed by desires, nor bound by them, him one call a brahmana (noble one)." ---Dhp.385
"When a brahmana has mastered the two things – quietude and insight – then all his fetters to samsara will fade away." ---Dhp.384
"With effort cleave the stream (of Craving). Give up sense-desires, O brahmana. Understanding the destruction of conditioned things, O brahamana, be a knower of the Unmade (emancipation)." ---Dhp. 383
